Eagle Scout Michael C. Williams Memorial Scholarship

About Michael
Michael C. Williams earned his Eagle rank as a member of Troop 700 in 1989.
If you have been to a Troop 700 Eagle Court of Honor, you have seen Michael’s work. Beginning around 2000, his parents, Robert and Ginger Williams, started presenting each new Troop 700 Eagle Scout with a framed engraving of an eagle — and Michael was the artist who created every one of them. More than 100 of his engravings have been presented to Troop 700 Eagle Scouts, and he completed enough additional engravings that the tradition will continue for many years to come.
Michael passed away on September 8, 2024. His family established this scholarship to extend his Scouting legacy beyond the engravings, by helping Troop 700 Scouts attend the leadership training that benefits both the Scout and the troop.
What the scholarship covers
The scholarship helps a Scout attend one of the National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) courses run by Longhorn Council at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch, or the Twin Arrows course if it is offered.
- Amount: $100 per Scout
- Awarded each year: up to four — two for Troop 700B, two for Troop 700G
- Selected by: the Scoutmaster and the Troop Committee
If no Scouts request NYLT or Twin Arrows in a given calendar year, that year’s scholarship funds may be used to help a Scout who, for financial reasons, might otherwise be unable to attend summer camp.
Who is eligible
- First Class rank or higher
- Active in troop activities
- NYLT would benefit both the Scout and the troop
- Plans to remain in the troop until aging out
- Financial need may be a consideration
How to apply
Talk to your Scoutmaster — 700B or 700G — before registering for an NYLT or Twin Arrows course. The Scoutmaster and Troop Committee review requests and select recipients.
The scholarship was established in September 2024 by Robert and Patricia Williams. Robert is a past Chartered Organization Representative for Troop 700.
